This map, by Zara Matheson at the Martin Prosperity Institute, charts the geography of gun violence across the 50 states plus the District of Columbia, based on data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [PDF]. The data (from 2008, the most recent year available) include accidental shootings, suicides, acts of self-defense and crimes.

Basically why I went into Earth-related sciences.

Florida governor Rick Scott is not a fan of social science education. But his name’s on an AAG resolution supporting increased Geography education in primary and secondary school. The contradiction boggles my mind.

And yeah, the Rapture (again) is supposed to be tomorrow.
